Strip out FAQs

Practical answers about quotes, scope, access, approvals, waste and handover for Sydney homes and businesses.

Quotes, pricing & booking

Are quotes and consultations free?

Yes. Master Strip Outs provides free quotes and consultations. Send photos and the suburb through the quote form, or call Mick to talk through what needs to come out.

How much does a strip out cost in Sydney?

Costs depend on the size, access, property type, waste volume and complexity of the job. The Sydney strip out cost guide explains the main quote factors and the information worth preparing before scope review.

How much does a bathroom or kitchen strip out cost?

Bathrooms and kitchens are quoted individually because access, wall and floor finishes, services and material volume affect the final price. Compare the bathroom strip out scope with the kitchen strip out scope to identify the closest starting point.

How do you confirm a start date?

Start dates depend on crew availability, building access, waste logistics and the approved scope. Let us know your deadline during the quote and we will talk through the available options.

What information should I send with my quote request?

Send the suburb, property type, clear photos, a room-by-room removal list, items to retain, access details and the handover needed for the next trade. Add the information through the quote form so it can be reviewed together.

Can you quote from photos, or is a site walk-through needed?

Clear photos can support an initial scope review when they show each work area, what needs to be removed and the access route. Larger, concealed or access-sensitive work may need a site walk-through before pricing is confirmed. Use the quote form to send the available details together.

Services & removal scope

What's included in a strip out?

The written scope identifies the fixtures, finishes and non-structural elements to remove, the items that stay, protection requirements, waste handling and the handover condition. Use the service selector to find the page closest to the proposed work.

Can several rooms or removal types be included in one quote?

Yes. The quote can combine related room, finish and waste scopes when the removal list, retained items, access route and final handover are clear. Send one complete set of photos and identify the work area room by room.

What is the difference between a strip out and demolition?

A strip out generally removes fixtures, finishes and selected internal elements while retaining the main structure. Demolition can involve a broader removal boundary and may require engineering or approval input. Compare the options in the service directory.

Can a structural or load-bearing wall be removed?

The wall’s structural role needs to be confirmed before removal is included in the scope. Engineering, approvals and separately qualified trades may be required depending on the design and property. The wall removal service explains the planning boundary.

Access & site preparation

How long does a strip out take?

Timing depends on room count, access, building rules, retained finishes and waste volume. Your quote includes the planned sequence before work starts so follow-on trades can be booked with the right expectations.

How are retained areas and common property considered in the scope?

The scope should identify retained finishes and shared areas, then record the access and protection considerations for carrying routes, stairs, lifts, lobbies and neighbouring spaces. The requirements depend on the property and removal path.

What needs to be disconnected before strip-out work starts?

Any electrical, plumbing, gas, fire or mechanical services affected by the removal need to be identified during scope review. The quote should record which services need isolation or disconnection and who is responsible for the required licensed work before removal begins.

Apartments, strata & commercial

What's the difference between a defit and a strip out?

A strip out removes the agreed fixtures, fittings and finishes from a property. A defit is a commercial lease-end scope shaped by the make-good clause and the landlord handover requirement. See the defit service for the commercial planning differences.

How are apartment and strata strip outs planned?

Apartment work needs the removal scope coordinated with approved hours, lift or stair access, common-area protection, parking, waste movement and any strata booking requirements. The apartment strip out service sets out the main planning points.

Can a strip out be planned in an occupied home or building?

It depends on the separation of the work area, access route, retained spaces, building rules and approved work windows. These conditions need to be reviewed before the removal sequence is agreed; continued occupation should not be assumed to suit every project.

Approvals & hazardous materials

Do I need council approval for a strip out?

Requirements vary between councils and properties. Heritage controls, structural changes, external work and some commercial scopes can change the approval pathway. Start with the Sydney regulations guide and confirm the property-specific position with the relevant authority or qualified adviser.

What happens if asbestos or another hazardous material is suspected?

Suspected material should be left undisturbed until it has been assessed through the appropriate specialist pathway. Master Strip Outs does not offer asbestos removal. SafeWork NSW recommends using a licensed asbestos professional to assess or remove suspected asbestos; see its asbestos guidance before planning other removal work.

Waste & handover

What happens to the waste?

The waste plan depends on the material types, quantities, separation options, carrying route and loading access. The strip-out and demolition waste removal service explains the information needed before collection or removal is priced.

Does the quoted scope include waste removal?

The quote should state the agreed waste and clearing allowance. Material type, volume, carry distance, loading access and disposal requirements are reviewed as part of the scope. See the strip-out and demolition waste removal service for the main planning factors.

How is the required handover condition agreed?

The handover should be recorded with the removal scope: what remains, how loose material is cleared, which surfaces will be exposed and what the next trade expects to receive. This prevents “stripped out” from meaning a different finish to each person involved.

Next step

Still unsure about the scope?

Send photos, the suburb and what needs to come out so the access, removal boundary and next step can be reviewed.
