Internal Strip Out & Demolition

Interiors Stripped Back to Structure

Sydney-wide interior strip out coordination

An internal strip out removes the interior elements of a building — wall and ceiling linings, partitions, floor coverings, joinery, fixtures and fittings — while the structural shell stays standing. It is the controlled middle ground between a renovation tidy-up and full demolition, and it is core work for Master Strip Outs across Sydney.

The work is selective by design. Plasterboard and hardset linings come off the frame, suspended ceilings and cornices come down, tiles, timber and carpet come up, and built-in cabinetry is cut out — but load-bearing elements, retained services and any finishes you want kept are identified at inspection and protected throughout. Non-structural wall removal can be included in the same visit; anything structural is done separately to an engineer’s specification with proper propping.

Internal Strip Out & Demolition Scope

Selective demolition with the shell protected

01Internal Strip Out & Demolition Scope

  • Lining & Ceiling Removal

Plasterboard, hardset, lath-and-plaster and suspended ceilings removed back to the frame, with fixings pulled and the structure left clean.

  • Partition & Non-Structural Wall Removal

Stud and partition walls removed after concealed services are checked and any required licensed trade work is coordinated.

  • Floor Covering Removal

Tiles, timber, vinyl and carpet lifted with dust-minimised equipment, adhesive ground back and the substrate prepared for new flooring.

02What internal strip out & demolition work needs

  • Protection around the renovation

Retained floors, rooms and access paths are identified before removal starts, particularly when other parts of the property remain occupied or finished.

  • Access matched to the property

Stairs, lifts, parking, carrying distances and bin positions are reviewed before pricing so material can move out without compromising shared areas.

  • Services checked before removal

Any plumbing, electrical or specialist work affected by the strip out is identified and coordinated with an appropriately licensed trade when required.

How It Works

How Internal Strip Out & Demolition Works

A controlled sequence, room by room
  1. 01

    Inspection & Scope

We inspect the interior, agree which linings, finishes and fixtures are going, and flag structural elements or suspect materials before issuing the quote.

  2. 02

    Make Safe & Protect

Any required licensed service work is coordinated, retained finishes and structural elements are protected, and dust barriers separate the work zones.

  3. 03

    Selective Strip Out

Fixtures and joinery come out first, then finishes and linings are stripped back to structure in a planned sequence that keeps the shell intact.

  4. 04

    Clear, Clean & Hand Over

Waste is sorted and removed, protruding fixings are pulled, and the stripped interior is swept broom-clean and walked through with you or your builder.

Your quote

What shapes an internal strip out & demolition quote

The price depends on what comes out, how the crew reaches it, the waste involved and how the area needs to be left.
01

Removal scope

The rooms, fixtures, finishes and structural boundaries included in the work are confirmed before pricing.

02

Access and material movement

Parking, stairs, lifts, loading areas, carry distance and available bin or truck access affect the removal method.

03

Waste type and volume

Material mix, weight, recycling options and the likely number of loads all affect the quote.

04

Occupied areas and protection

The protection route, separation from lived-in areas and finishes that must remain all affect labour and setup.

FAQs

Internal Strip Out & Demolition FAQs

Common questions about internal strip outs
View all FAQs
What exactly is involved in an internal strip out?

An internal strip out removes the interior fit out and finishes of a building — wall and ceiling linings, partitions, floor coverings, joinery, fixtures and fittings — while the structural shell remains standing. The scope is agreed room by room at inspection, so you can strip everything back to the frame or keep specific finishes and features in place.

How long does an internal strip out take?

Internal strip out timing depends on how many rooms are included, access, services, retained finishes and the amount of material coming out. We confirm the programme in your written quote so follow-on trades can be booked with confidence.

Can you remove structural or load-bearing walls?

Structural elements need an engineer’s design and the required approvals before they can be altered. We remove non-structural partitions as part of the strip out, and for load-bearing walls we work to your engineer’s specification with temporary propping in place — see our structural wall opening service for how that works.

Do I need council approval for internal strip out work?

Internal, non-structural strip outs generally do not need council approval in NSW. If your project also involves structural changes or alterations that affect the building’s external form, those works may require a CDC or DA — a private certifier can confirm the approval path before your renovation programme is locked in.

What happens to the waste?

We sort everything on site — metal, timber, plasterboard and mixed debris — and cart it to appropriate facilities, recycling where accepted. Agreed disposal is included in your quote and the work area is handed over broom-clean.
